Hippocrates of Cos (c. 460 BC – c. 370 BC), a Greek physician during the golden age of Athenian culture, under the leadership of Pericles (495-429 BCE).

1. There is no authority except facts.

2. Facts are obtained by accurate observation.

3. Deductions are to be made only from facts.

4. Experience has proved the truth of these rules.

Life is short, art is long, opportunity fleeting, experience misleading, judgment difficult.
